It’s a great feeling to teach people something that can help them in their personal and professional lives. I was lucky enough to be born into the English language, but I can see that for many here learning English might be the key to finding a new job, an aid to travel or simply a pleasure in itself.

In my spare time, my favourite hobbies are reading and cycling. I love literature from around the world, not just England. My favourite authors are James Joyce, Vladimir Nabokov, Martin Amis, Franz Kafka and Marcel Proust.

As for cycling, I like to ride on the roads in the hills of the Peak District near Buxton. Of course I miss my family and friends in England, but my bicycle comes a close second!

Because I’m English, and we’re very bad at learning new languages, I can only speak a little of the language I learned at school - German. But I’ve picked up some Hungarian phrases and hope to learn many more during my time in Budapest.

I’m still new to Budapest, so there are lots of things I haven’t yet seen. So far, my favourite place is the Citadella – I love looking out over the city under bright blue skies in the day time, or during the night, when the thousands of lights lit up across Buda and Pest reflect in the waters of the Danube.
